CamStudio and YouTube

The good stuff always lasts.

Have a look at http://www.julyan.biz/camstudio-and-youtube-all-free/ which, although written in 2009, is still one of the easiest (and cheapest) ways to communicate with clients and staff.

Mentoring and Coaching

Our clients often find it necessary to have access to an objective ear that can offer advice on a particular project, computer model or pending decision.

Our mentoring and coaching is done telephonically and after working hours. This fact makes this service both cost effective and efficient.

Visit our Mentoring and Coaching page on our website.

Financial Modelling – Business perspectives

Have a look at the Financial Modelling page on my website.

Financial Modelling is distinct from financial reporting in that it looks at the future. Financial Modelling includes budgeting but goes far beyond budgeting by helping you make calculated decisions about the future direction and focus of your management effort.

Our work with clients, over the years, has highlighted that many people are following a perception, about their company and its activities, that is often flawed or horribly incorrect. The problem is that they use these perceptions in the creation of their budgets.

Capture Data on your Cellphone

This is starting to make sense, and I’m sure pricing will improve.

This is definitely something that can be used by people who are often away from the office.

Have a look at http://www.devicemagic.com where they say they can -

  • Remove paperwork and inefficiencies
  • Improve data quality
  • Get real-time access to data from the field
  • Get up and running in minutes, not weeks
  • No programming required

A Better level of Reporting

I have long been a fan of the work done by Hans Rosling. A man who understands the meaning of data and how to show it.

An example of this work can be found at http://www.gapminder.org/world where you can also download a desktop version of the software that performs the magic.

Enjoy

Shark Tank – Entrepreneurs

ABC have an interesting show called Shark Tank, where entrepreneurs pitch ideas to financiers to see if they can get finance for their idea.

The link below lists the ideas pitched in tha 2 series that have already run.

There are some interesting (and some silly) ideas.

Worth a Thought

Small Business Trends has an interesting article that is worth thinking about.

One of the paragraphs state – In the pre-cloud world, coordination and collaboration were big challenges in the distributed team model. Emails with attachments coupled with phone calls typically produced a “productivity tax” that made coordination time consuming and inefficient. Online tools have made it very easy to collaborate in real time, allowing everyone to literally be “on the same page”–but only if those tools are obviously helpful and easy for participants to use. If the cloud software is hard to adopt, it doesn’t matter that it is available anywhere—people will quickly default to their old way of doing things.”

My South Africa | Leader.co.za

An inspiring South African, Jonathan Jansen: Rector and Vice-Chancellor of the University of the Free State, recently wrote an article that started: “My South Africa is the working-class man who called from the airport to return my wallet without a cent missing. It is the white woman who put all three of her domestic worker’s children through the same school that her own child attended. It is the politician in one of our rural provinces, Mpumalanga, who returned his salary to the government as a statement that standing with the poor had to be more than just a few words. It is the teacher who worked after school hours every day during the public sector strike to ensure her children did not miss out on learning.”

Spreadsheet Factory

I have found a site called Jaxworks that has a (fairly) long list of example spreadsheets.

These are very basic but some of these maybe useful to help your thinking process.
